A Year of Growth for Juvenile Diversion Programs in South Dakota

Group of smiling teens in a corridor with green arrows. Text reads: "A Year of Growth for Juvenile Diversion Programs in South Dakota."

After implementing Advent Diversion Manager, South Dakota's juvenile diversion programs have shown significant success in 2023–2024, demonstrating how alternative approaches to juvenile justice create positive outcomes for both youth and communities. The state's success in diverting nearly 2,000 juveniles from the court system highlights its commitment to rehabilitation over punishment. The program effectively balances rehabilitation with accountability through proper funding, diverse programming, and careful attention to underlying causes. Thanks to this success and SD Senate Bill 47, State's Attorney Lara Roetzel secured funding to cover costs for almost all juvenile diversions this year.
